• Settings opens in a moment instead of six seconds — it used to build every one of its thirteen sections each time you opened it; now it sends the one you are looking at and fetches the rest only if you go to them. System settings are grouped rather than one long list
• The hub stops going offline for minutes at a time — one slow answer from a calendar service could hold the whole hub until it gave up
• Updates finish, or say plainly that they did not — and every browser and screen in the house picks up the new version on its own, instead of needing a reload nobody would think of
• The weather radar has its own map — drawn from map data that ships with the hub, so it works with no internet at all
• 🧾 Scan a receipt into your pantry — photograph it, in parts if it is long, and the hub reads the shopping off it, expands the store's abbreviations and skips totals and tax. You check what it read before anything is saved, and anything you already stock offers to top that up rather than making a second copy of it
• 📅 Plan meals around what is actually on — open a day in the meal planner and it shows that day's events, with times, places and whose they are, right above the box where you pick the dinner. Busy days are marked in the week list, so the night that wants something quick is obvious at a glance
• 🏠 Run your smart home on a spare screen instead of the hub — Home Assistant is the biggest thing the hub carries, and on a small hub that leaves little room for anything else. If you have a wall display with the memory for it, the hub can hand it over with everything in it — automations, dashboards, history, logins — and move it back just as easily. Nothing is ever deleted: the copy on the machine it came from is kept exactly as it was. Every machine says whether it can take it, and why not, with the actual numbers rather than "unavailable"
• 💾 Keep add-on data on a real drive — a smart-home database writes constantly, and constant writing is what wears a memory card out. Plug a USB or NVMe drive into a display and it appears in the app, including one you have only just plugged in, which gets set up in a single press. Choose it and anything already there moves across, keeping the old copy. And when a drive does not appear, the hub says why rather than staying silent
• ⚙️ Settings that live with the thing they change — each module has its own Setup tab, so camera settings sit in Cameras and budget settings in Budget, and Settings itself is only about the hub
• 🖥️ Wall displays that fix themselves — a display now recovers from a failed update instead of retrying forever, tells you on its own row when it cannot (storage failing, browser not starting), and "display off" genuinely powers the panel down rather than showing a black screen
• 🍳 Know what you can actually cook — What Can I Make now leads with the recipes your pantry already covers, then the closest others with what you would need. And a kitchen screen tells you what tonight's dinner is missing or short of — “need 4 cloves of garlic, have 2” — splitting what you have none of from what you have too little of. It only says “not enough” when it can honestly compare the two amounts, and stays quiet rather than sending you shopping for something you already have
• 📖 Read a recipe from across the kitchen — tap any recipe on a wall display to pop it out full size, with your pantry's stock and locations beside each ingredient and anything that needs thawing called out at the top
• 🖥️ A wall display with no terminal, ever — flash the Denwise Display image to a card, and set the screen up from your phone: it puts up its own Wi-Fi network, you join it, choose your Wi-Fi and point it at your hub. It expands to fill the card, shows you what it is doing while it sets itself up rather than pages of console text, and keeps itself up to date afterwards. Each display also says what it cannot do and why — a panel that will not power down, storage that is failing, a setup that could not be applied — on its own row in Settings, instead of leaving you to guess
• 🍳 A kitchen screen that knows your pantry — open any recipe on a kitchen display and every ingredient tells you whether you have it, how much, and which cupboard or freezer it is in. Anything time-sensitive — something that needs thawing tonight — is called out at the top, before the method. Browse the whole recipe library on the screen, filter it by meal, and cook from it
• 📷 Photograph a recipe into your library — point your phone at a cookbook page or a recipe card and the hub reads it into a proper recipe: title, ingredients with their amounts, steps and any tip. A card with the ingredients on the front and the method on the back is two photos, one recipe. You check what it read — the amounts especially — before anything is saved
• ⏲️ Kitchen timers you can hear — timers on a kitchen display now ring out loud until you dismiss them, several at once and tellable apart, and the display turns its own volume up rather than needing anything set up by hand
• 📚 Homework Helper: photograph the problem — take a picture of the worksheet, textbook page or a formula that's awkward to type, and the helper works through it step by step. On a phone or tablet it opens the camera straight away. A √x button adds a row of maths symbols (× ÷ ≤ ≥ π √ ² ³ ½ Σ ∫) that drop in wherever your cursor is
• 📅 One-tap iCloud calendar reconnect — if an Apple calendar ever shows “Reconnect needed”, it now comes back with a single tap instead of having to be deleted and set up again; the colour, family member and people on it are kept
• 🏡 The hub can install Home Assistant for you — want smart-home control but don't have Home Assistant yet? The hub can install it on itself — no second device, no command line, and no access token to copy. You pick a password; it downloads Home Assistant, starts it, creates your account and connects itself. It checks your hub can run it first and shows you what it found, reports the download's progress as it goes, and lets you pause or remove it again at any point if it turns out to be too much for your hardware — pausing frees its memory straight away and keeps everything
• 🏠 A Smart Home page about your home, not the plumbing — devices are now grouped by room (Kitchen, Living Room, Bedroom), using the rooms you've already set up in Home Assistant. Home Assistant's background clutter is kept out of the way — signal strengths, uptimes, firmware versions, leftovers from devices you removed — so the page is about your lights, locks, thermostats and sensors. A Choose what's shown picker lets you overrule any of it, and devices you add later still appear on their own
• ☁️ Off-device backup — keep an encrypted copy of your hub (database, settings, certificate — and optionally your photos) in your own cloud storage (any S3-compatible service: Cloudflare R2's free tier, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, AWS S3, or self-hosted MinIO), so you're covered even if the hub is lost or fails. Encrypted on the hub before it leaves your network; restore in-app with your passphrase
• 🌅 Routine widget — put a family member's routines and their steps (with today's progress) on Home or any wall screen, and check steps off right from the widget; add one per person for a whole-family view
• ☀️ A genuinely useful morning summary — the optional daily phone notification now lists what's on — the chores due (and who's assigned), the bills due today/tomorrow (with amount), and today's events with times, across all your connected calendars — instead of just a count
• 📅 One-tap calendar connect (Google & Outlook) — link your Google or Outlook / Microsoft 365 calendar with a single “Connect with Denwise” sign-in — no developer app to register. The sign-in routes through Denwise's servers, which handle only the connection; your calendar events are never sent to or stored by Denwise (a fully self-hosted option is still there if you prefer nothing to pass through Denwise)
• 📈 Budget balance projection — a day-by-day view of your running balance across the month: income on its paydays, each bill on its due date, overdue bills flagged, with a low-balance warning line and a per-day breakdown on tap
• 🖥️ Simpler display setup + per-display schedules — setting up a wall display is now one step (add a display, then pick which screen it shows), and each display has its own on/off & dim schedule — so two screens showing the same board can keep different hours (a kitchen board on all day, a bedroom one off overnight)
• 🖥️ Wall displays keep themselves current — a Raspberry Pi display set up from the image or script now stays in step with your hub on its own: it matches your hub's timezone (so the calendar is right near midnight), turns on smooth reduce-motion for a low-powered Pi, and pulls setup improvements (browser tuning, a refreshed certificate) automatically — no re-flashing, no terminal. Each display shows its model and a one-tap Refresh setup
• 🤖 Open-weight & local AI — alongside Claude, ChatGPT, Grok & Gemini, you can now point the AI at an open-weight or local model: any OpenAI-compatible server (Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, vLLM) on your own hardware, or an open-weight service like OpenRouter. Run a local model and your prompts never leave your network — private, and free to run
• 🎤 Voice quick-capture — with your AI key set, tap the mic in Quick Add and just say it (“spent $24 on groceries,” “soccer Friday at 5,” “add milk to the list,” “Dad owes Sarah $5”) — it fills the right form for you to glance over and save. Your device does the listening; the AI only turns the words into fields
• One ＋ Quick Add, everywhere — a single ＋ button (wall or phone) opens the full quick-actions — add an event, expense, chore, shopping item, or IOU from one place; the event form lets you pick which calendar it lands on
• Put a display on any screen — every dashboard screen now has a Set up button with a QR code and step-by-step for a tablet or old phone (add to home screen), a spare Raspberry Pi (a one-line kiosk installer, Pi Zero 2 W and up), or an old monitor — each with its own on/off & dim schedule. New Wall Displays & Parts guide covers the hardware
• IOUs for more than two people — an IOU can be money or a “thing” (a dinner, a favor); split one debt across several people who share it, or owe several people each; even let 🏆 Chores or 🏠 the household be the one who owes. Add them from your phone’s Quick-Add or fully offline, and deleting one is PIN-protected
• Family Finances — a new home for money between people, separate from the household Budget: track IOUs (who owes whom, with a paid-off history), kids' piggy banks, and gift-card balances — all as tabs of one module
• Budget categories you control — rename, add or remove your spending categories and give any of them a monthly target; the Overview's This-Month Budget vs. Actual card tracks your spending against it (green under, red over)
• Use the app offline — install Denwise as an app on your phone and it keeps working with no signal: your Shopping list and To-Do stay fully usable (check, add & delete — it all syncs the moment you reconnect), your Calendar and Budget are viewable offline, and a clean offline Home shows exactly what's available with no dead buttons
• Phone notifications — a daily morning summary plus reminders (bills due, chores overdue, today's events) as push notifications on each family member's phone; they keep working as you move between home Wi-Fi and away, and set-up is one tap — trusted locally on your network, and away from home over Tailscale, with no per-device fuss
• A real shopping list — its own synced, checkable module the whole family shares; Kitchen sends items straight from your meal plan (skipping what's already in the pantry), quick-add from any screen, and file what you bought into the pantry in a tap
• Points for routines — kids can earn chore points for finishing their daily morning/bedtime routines, feeding the same leaderboards & rewards
• Starter screensaver albums — a fresh hub comes with ready-made Nature, Architecture & Art albums so the screensaver isn’t blank out of the box; swap in your own anytime
• A dig-’em-up arcade game — “Miner,” a Minecraft-style dig for coal, iron, gold & diamonds (mind the lava), joins Snake/Shooter/Crossing; all playable by touch on the wall screen
• Out & About knows who's going — pick the family members at the table and suggestions use each person's saved dietary needs & food likes/dislikes; optionally add a free Google Places key for real venue details (ratings, hours, parking, a Maps link)
• Console display mode — an immersive, full-screen "wall display" look you can drive with a remote or arrow keys, each module in its own neon accent; it ships in dark and has a full light mode too, and every module was restyled for it (works in Classic, Console & Tile Launcher)
• Your own family groups — define your groups (name & emoji) instead of the fixed Adult/Bigs/Littles, and mark each as adults or kids (kids get points, tokens & the leaderboards)
• Calendar works out of the box — no account required — a built-in local calendar lets you add and see events with nothing to connect; link Google/Outlook/Apple only if you want to pull those in alongside
• Design your own dashboards — a drag-and-drop designer for the Home screen and as many wall-display screens as you like; place, resize, layer & style widgets (clock, weather, a rich 7-day view, month calendar, countdowns, checklists, photo albums, tonight's dinner & its full recipe, quotes, word of the day, embedded web pages & more), each screen with its own background & behavior
• Out & About — AI suggestions for restaurants or outings by area, party size & tastes, addable to the calendar (your AI key)
• Import events from a flyer — snap a school/sports flyer and the AI pulls out the events for you to review & add (your AI key)
