Terms of Service

Last updated: June 27, 2026

The short version: You're buying a license to run Denwise on your own hardware. You own your use of it for as long as you like — if you stop paying for updates, the version you have keeps working; you just won't receive new versions. Don't resell or redistribute the software. It's provided as-is.

1. Agreement

These Terms are a contract between you and [legal entity name] ("Denwise," "we," "us"). By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using the Denwise software or the denwise.app website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Denwise.

2. The software and your license

Denwise is self-hosted software you run on your own hardware (a Raspberry Pi, or your own machine via Docker). When you purchase, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Denwise for your own household, subject to these Terms and your plan.

Your purchase includes software updates according to the plan you choose (see §3). If your update entitlement ends, the software you already installed keeps working — you simply stop receiving new versions until you renew.

3. Plans, billing, and renewals

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record; their checkout terms also apply to the transaction. Plans:

Refunds: [State your refund policy — e.g. "We offer a 14-day refund on first purchases; contact [support email]." Lemon Squeezy processes approved refunds.]

License keys & activation: each license key activates one hub. Sharing a key beyond your household, or attempting to circumvent activation or update licensing, is a breach of these Terms.

4. Acceptable use & restrictions

You may use Denwise for your own household. You may not:

5. Your responsibilities

Because Denwise runs in your home, you are responsible for your hardware, network, physical and network security, and backups of your own data. You are responsible for any third-party services you connect (cameras, calendars, AI providers) and for complying with their terms and with the laws that apply to recording or monitoring in your location.

6. Intellectual property

Denwise, including its software, design, and trademarks, is owned by us and protected by law. These Terms grant you a license to use it, not ownership of it. Third-party and open-source components remain under their respective licenses.

7. Disclaimers

Denwise is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Denwise is not a life-safety or professional security system; do not rely on it as your sole means of monitoring, alerting, or emergency response.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to Denwise will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms (for example, redistributing the software or abusing license activation). You may stop using Denwise at any time.

10. Changes, governing law & contact

We may update these Terms; we'll change the date above and note material changes here. These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Questions: [support / legal contact email].

These Terms are a starting template and are not legal advice. Have them reviewed by a qualified attorney for your jurisdiction before publishing.
